Ex-Trump aide denies drinking after CNN anchor calls him out

  • Is Mueller’s net tightening around Trump

"Who's to say?" Colbert joked.

In regard to the subpoena, Nunberg said he was not going to spend a lengthy amount of time scouring his inbox for emails involving former White House adviser Stephen Bannon and informal Trump adviser Roger Stone Jr.

Hannity said Nunberg "appears to be having a national meltdown" ever since he announced his refusal of Mueller's legally-binding invitation.

In an interview on CNN, he said he believed Mueller's team wanted specifics about Stone, but that he wouldn't talk about him because he was like a mentor. He at times sounded nervous and self-doubting, openly questioning his legal fate.

Later Monday, though, he told The Associated Press that he would probably cooperate in the end.

He and Nunberg never overlapped on the Trump campaign.

Nunberg then went on multiple MSNBC and CNN shows to publicize his refusal to comply with the Mueller probe.

On Twitter, Ned Price, who is a former Central Intelligence Agency official said that this subpoena shows that Mueller is treating president Trump's "entire senior campaign team like a criminal enterprise".

But Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican leading the committee's Russian Federation probe, seemed to throw cold water on the idea that the committee should speak to Nunberg, who was an early adviser to Trump's campaign before he was sacked in August 2015.

He also planned on ripping up the document during an appearance on Bloomberg TV.

McDougal said if she were to give Nunberg advice, she would also tell him that if he thinks he's going to stop Mueller from doing something, "they'll do it anyway". Nunberg asked CNN's Jake Tapper.

He said the reason he wasn't going to the grand jury was because what Mueller's team asked for is "ridiculous".

He then made a number of hysterical claims in the interviews.

Nunberg told the AP he'd already blown a 3 p.m. Monday deadline to turn over the requested communications.

CNN's Erin Burnett told Nunberg during her interview with him that she smelled alcohol on Nunberg's breath.

"Well, I've not had a drink", he replied. "They want me in there for a grand jury for testimony about Roger Stone". I don't really care.

After spending hours on television Monday, Nunberg ended the phone interview after just three minutes, saying he needed to return to the arduous task of organizing the emails the special counsel asked him to provide via a written subpoena. But he said he couldn't say for sure.

Both Wisenberg and Sharman said that if Nunberg continues to defy the subpoena, or does not reach an agreement with the Special Counsel's office he will be held in contempt of court and jailed, either until he agrees to testify or the grand jury expires - a prospect to which Nunberg seems amenably, at least publicly. After telling Burnett that he thinks it may have something to do with Trump's businesses, Nunberg took the opportunity to take a shot at pro-Trump cable news hosts.

"They want me in there for grand jury on Friday". "By the way, you're going to be fine when it comes out what he did but people like Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Jeanine Pirro - they're gonna be very embarrassed".

According to reports, Nunberg first worked for one of Trump's businesses and later helped advise Trump's presidential campaign, but he was sacked in August 2015 amid reports that he posted racially charged messages on Facebook. "He was talking about it a week before..."

"I don't know why he went around trying to hide this", Nunberg said.
