  • The SEC Tournament is shaping up to be the best one in years

With his team trailing by one in the final seconds, Alabama's star freshman point guard Collin Sexton did his best Tyus Edney impression.

It was a remarkable performance from the freshman, who raced coast-to-coast to sink the game-winner at the buzzer to save Alabama's NCAA Tournament hopes.

After taking a 35-28 lead at the half, the Crimson Tide remained hot to begin the second half, using an 8-0 run over a span of 1:20 for its largest lead of the day, 54-42, at the 13:03 mark. The Aggies grabbed 17 offensive boards and scored 19 second-chance points.

"We had to overcome foul trouble but made a good comeback", Kennedy said.

Sexton finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting, which included three 3-pointers.

Alabama, which had lost five straight games coming into the tournament, led by as many as 12 in the second half, but 17 turnovers kept the Tide from pulling away.

Alabama: The Crimson Tide entered the game 56th in the NCAA's RPI ratings despite its late-season woes, thanks in large part to earlier victories this season over ranked opponents such as Auburn, Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee. At the other end, A&M blocked nine shots with Robert Williams swatting seven. He followed with a layup to regain the lead for Alabama. Alabama got that win, so I'll let you do the math as to where that puts Sexton and company heading into Friday's showdown with Auburn.

"When you're in the gym, sometimes you imagine stuff like that and you always have to be prepared", Sexton said.

Alabama basketball standout Collin Sexton put the team on his back.

Tomorrow's Alabama-Auburn game will be televised at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. "We had moments when we looked like a dominant team in certain stretches".

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the ninth-seeded Crimson Tide (18-14), and provided a much-needed boost for the school's case to receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament. "Our team showed some maturity".

A solid SEC tournament was already being anticipated with the improve of the league during the regular season but through three games, the tournament has already been better than advertised.

To say that Johnson was pleased with that response would be an understatement.

The Tide started the game strong and it seemed as if they would finish strong as well.
