An activist linked to a fringe group called the Hindu Yuva Sena, Kumar hails from Maddur town in Mandya district, 100km from Bangalore en route to Mysore. Accused Naveen Kumar had objected to undergoing this test when he was in the custody of the SIT.

The police officer said Kumar has been apprehended on Friday on suspicion of providing weapons used to kill Lankesh.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the 5 September 2017 murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru, on Friday listed K.T.Naveen Kumar as an accused in the case. We have submitted some evidence gained during investigation in a sealed envelope to the court, which is why the court extended the date of Naveen Kumar's custody with the police.

An unidentified gunman had on September 5 previous year shot dead Gauri, who was known for her writing against communalism. The SIT had Naveen ride a bicycle in its guardianship. "/ Arrested by the Karnataka police earlier for his alleged involvement of killing Journalist-Activist Gauri br / Lankesh in the city previous year".

In an interview to Reuters in 2015, the members of the Sanatan Sanstha said they were preparing for the advent of a divine Hindu kingdom in India. She edited the Kannada weekly Lankesh Patrike. He was also at the Sanstha headquarters in Goa for several days previous year for a conference. Earlier on March 3, Naveen Kumar was taken into custody by the Karnataka police for questioning in connection with the case. The court did not consider the police's plea to include charges of attempt to murder and conspiracy in the case since investigations had revealed that Kumar was allegedly at advanced stage of executing the killing of K S Bhagawan, an outspoken writer, rationalist and critic of some Hindu religious beliefs.

The SIT has made a decision to transfer the case of Kumar's plot to eliminate K S Bhagawan to the Mysuru police.
