Richard Sherman to visit with the Lions

  • Why are the Detroit Lions interested in Richard Sherman

He has a visit lined up with the 49ers on Saturday, Anderson reported, and has received interest from six other clubs: the Titans, Lions, Raiders, Texans, Bucs and Packers.

The free agent cornerback will be visiting with the San Francisco 49ers today after meeting with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan Friday night, according to reports.

The Seahawks made the decision to move on from cornerback Richard Sherman on Friday. And while multiple reports have linked Sherman to the New England Patriots, there's a "real chance" the 29-year-old stays in the NFC West, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday, citing sources.

Sherman is also expected to undergo a physical and meet with team doctors to talk about the Achilles tendon he tore a year ago, NFL Network reported.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle.

Sherman was released with a failed physical designation which allows him to be eligible for a $1.15 million injury guarantee if he never plays again. The team has a talented corner in Darius Slay. Saleh has implemented a defensive system that is similar to the Seahawks. He told SI.com's Albert Breer the Seahawks "wanted the financial flexibility going into free agency but expressed that they wanted me to return and will be in contact".

This offseason, 49ers have looked into three Pro Bowl cornerbacks - Vontae Davis, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib - but did not seriously pursue them before they landed elsewhere.

Sherman led the league in interceptions in 2013 and has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times.
