  • Biplab Deb to be sworn-in as Tripura CM on Friday PM Modi expected to attend

"We urged the administration and the BJP leadership to take adequate measures to stop these post-poll violence immediately in the entire state", Dhar added. About 10 of us friends came to Agartala to witness the ceremony.

Another delegation led by party's Central Committee member Gautam Das met CEO of Tripura Sriram Taranikanti and raised similar demand.

He said that BJP had called for change of power but now it appears that they changed the peaceful Tripura into a violent state despite being elected with a huge mandate.

A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi "ignoring", "snubbing" his political guru, mentor BJP veteran LK Advani during the Biplab Deb's swearing-in ceremony as Tripura CM on Friday (Mar 9, 2018), is going viral online. The newly-installed CM, Deb, is 48.

The BJP has uprooted the 25-year long Left rule in Tripura.

Governor Tathagata Roy also administered the oath of office to the BJP's Jishnu Deb Burman as the deputy chief minister, along with seven other ministers, including IPFT chief N C Debbarma.

Addressing a packed audience, Modi said the people of the state do not belong to a party, they belong to the country and that the government in the Centre is committed to their welfare.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) dethroned the Left Front in Tripura ending former chief minister Manik Sarkar's over two-decade rule in the state. "We have to work together for the progress of Tripura", he asserted.

The CPI-M party Secretary Bijan Dhar alleged soon after the departure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Tripura attending swearing-in ceremony yesterday, several party offices were burnt down and CPI-M leaders and workers were attacked allegedly by BJP supporters last night in Bishalgarh, Jirania and Amarpur.

The CPI (M) on Saturday made a decision to withdraw its candidate from the March 12 by-election to Charilam Assembly constituency in Tripura after its appeal to postpone the polls was not considered by the Election Commission.

"With a view to vitiating the peaceful election and winning the seat in Charilam, the BJP has let loose a reign of terror and violence against the CPI (M) and the Left Front", he said.
