  • Sky are set for talks with Carragher who has apologised to the 14-year-old girl

The Liverpool legend was caught on camera spitting at the passenger window of a vehicle, which is reported to have hit a 14-year-old United fan, after her dad began teasing Carragher over Liverpool's defeat to Manchester United, saying: "Hey Jamie, good result, 2-1".

The Liverpool legend was being taunted by some Manchester United fans when he "lost his rag" on Saturday.

The 14-year-old United supporter was in the passenger seat while her father was driving and talking to the former England defender about the game.

The father then repeatedly mentions the score, to which he responds "all right", before then spitting in the direction of the auto.

Now Carragher has issued a full apology to the girl and her father, as he has confirmed he as been in touch with the duo to express his regret over the incident.

"Totally out of order & I've apologised personally to all the family this evening. I thought, 'Why has he done that".

"I have never been spat at by anyone before".

According to the Mirror, Carragher phoned the family and told the teenage girl: "I just want to apologise and I hope you are OK".

Carragher, who works as a Sky Sports pundit, claimed that the incidents of similar ilk happened twice or thrice and this is why he lost his head over the banter.

However, a spokesman for the channel said: "It's unacceptable behaviour and we will be addressing it with Jamie".

She responded by saying: "OK, thanks for apologising".

When Carragher was a Sportsmail columnist, he wrote a column in March 2015 recounting an incident in which he was spat at during his playing career - but he insisted it was not worse than having his leg broken. "It went on for two or three times", Carragher said. I drove away at first and it just continued and continued.
