Joy Behar Publicly Apologizes to Pence for Remarks Disparaging Christians

If you've missed the backstory here, this all began a few weeks ago when Joy Behar made a joke about Mike Pence being mentally ill because of his Christian faith. "It's another thing when Jesus talks to you", added Behar.

"It's one thing to talk to Jesus, It's another thing when Jesus talks to you", Behar quipped at the time. "That's called mental illness, if I'm not correct".

Although Pence did give Behar credit for her honest apology, he asked that she take it a step further. She picked up the phone.

She added, "I sincerely apologize for what I said".

"She apologized to the vice president, he accepted and said he wasn't offended by her comment for his own sake but on behalf of the millions of evangelicals who watch ABC and her show", the source wrote in an email.

Behar had previously apologized to Pence personally in a phone call, but broadened her sorry scope to include all Christians after Pence encouraged her to do so in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

"For me, it was never about me", Pence said. I was raised to respect everyone's religious faith and I fell short of that. She made a call to him and apologised, which I thought was absolutely appropriate. According to one poll conducted in 2015, almost two-thirds of Americans (63 percent) say Christians are facing intolerance and that is up from half just two years prior.

Shortly after Omarosa's comments aired on CBS, Behar responded on "The View", saying it sounded like Pence was suffering from mental illness. "We're better than that", Pence later said in response. "Specifically, do you think, like Mrs. Hostin and Mrs. Behar, that the Christian faith is akin to a risky mental illness?"

Behar's comments led to the Media Research Center's launch of a campaign to hold the television host accountable for what they called "anti-Christian bigotry".

"It is a good first step that Joy Behar privately apologized to Vice President Pence, but it is not almost enough", Bozell said in a statement released by MRC. Danhof asked. "Specifically, do you think, like Mrs. Hostin and Mrs. Behar, that the Christian faith is akin to a unsafe mental illness?"

"What do you say to the tens of millions of Christians, and President Trump supporters, that your networks have so blatantly offended and ascribed hateful labels?"
