The process of Egyptians overseas voting in the elections started on Friday March 16 and continues through Saturday and Sunday Match 17-18.

Egypt's army chief-turned-President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is virtually certain to win re-election after a string of potential contenders withdrew from the race under pressure or were arrested.

Egyptian expatriates in Bahrain have flocked to the embassy early yesterday to cast their votes in the 2018 presidential election, which has officially opened its doors to voters for three days.

According to the ministry, voting is already underway in the countries of the Asia-Pacific, South and Central Asia, and Middle East regions.

In order to facilitate voting, the National Elections Authority (NEA) said that voters can bring their valid passport or the national ID card without the need for prior registration. According to Egypt's official electoral commission, 139 polling stations have been set up at Egyptian diplomatic missions in 124 countries.

Since the start of the vote on Friday, several videos have been shared online from embassies worldwide showing Egyptian men and women celebrating while voting, playing patriotic songs and wearing clothes in the colours of the Egyptian flag: red, white and black.

The official acknowledged that there are no official statistics about how many Egyptians will vote overseas.

The final results of the first round will be announced on April 2.

"We have heard about approximately ten million Egyptians overseas, as well as other figures", but in fact, there is no database of voters for Egyptian expatriates', Loza noted.
