  • Syria, Russia Blame Israel for Deadly Attack on Assad Base

Earlier on Monday, Russia's military said that two Israeli F-15 fighter jets struck the T-4 military airbase in Homs province in Syria.

"An aggression was perpetrated on T-4 air base in several strikes that is most likely to be an American attack", state television said in a news flash.

Nader said that the chemical attack on Douma opened the door for all global players, particularly Israel, to widely intervene in Syria.

The Israeli jets fired eight guided missiles, Syrian air defenses managed to shoot down 5 of them, while 3 fell on the western parties from the airport, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

More than 100 buses entered the town on Sunday night to take the fighters and their families to Jarablus, a town under the shared control of rebels and Turkey, said Syrian state-affiliated al-Ikhbariya TV.

The Assad government denied responsibility for the chemical attack.

Israel has yet to comment on the strike, but US officials have reportedly confirmed Israel's involvement in the strike on the airbase, NBC reports.

Aid groups said the woundedwere foaming at the mouth and in respiratory distress caused by the poison gas.

The Hague: The global watchdog working to eradicate chemical weapons is investigating reports of a suspected poison gas attack on Douma, its head said.

President Donald Trump called the airstrike "mindless" and blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin as "responsible" for supporting the attack.

Israeli sources say 12 of the dead have been identified as Hamas terrorists, and that armed terrorist elements in the Gaza Strip have used the riots as cover to attempt terror attacks on Israeli forces.

Douma is one of the opposition's last strongholds near the capital, and had come under heavy bombardment by Syrian government and allied forces in recent weeks.

The fast-paced developments threatened to further hike tensions between the USA and Russian Federation, which has in the past warned against any US military action against President Bashar Assad's government.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned against military action on the basis of "invented and fabricated excuses".

Smoke billows in the town of Douma, the last opposition holdout in Syria's Eastern Ghouta, on April 7, 2018, after Syrian regime troops resumed a military blitz to pressure rebels to withdraw. The gas attack was blamed on Assad.
