LAS VEGAS (AP) - Erik Haula's goal in double overtime gave the Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night for a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.
Doughty, a former Norris Trophy victor, hit Carrier - a fourth-line winger for Vegas who just returned to the lineup after missing two months with an undisclosed injury - in the head with 10:01 remaining in the third period of the Golden Knights' 1-0 Game 1 victory at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday night. "I don't think anybody would be playing tomorrow if those numbers were accurate".
Head coach of Vegas, Gerard Gallant said that that Carrier was listed as day-to-day in a press conference.
Part of the help in Wednesday's came from a record attendance and the advantage of home ice and an enthusiastic crowd at T-Mobile Arena.
Both goaltenders Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Quick were spectacular with point blank saves throughout regulation.
"Everything was new right from the start of it.it's been a fun ride and hopefully we keep it rolling", he says.
Los Angeles has won 10 of the last 12 playoff series it has played, but it has lost 21 of the last 29 series in which it has lost Game 1. He played 28:02 in Game 1.
Shortly after the Kings goal, the Knights went back to work on the offensive end. The Vegas Golden Knights have allowed three or more goals in five of their last seven games. Doughty was third on the Kings in scoring with 60 points (10 goals, 50 assists) and skated a team-high 26 minutes, 50 seconds per game.
The first period of Game 2 would best be summed up by saying that both teams played well despite stoppages due to clock problems. "Everybody chips in with our hockey team, it's not one line or one goalie, it's a group effort every night and every time we win". The Kings seemed frustrated by the penalty calls and finally saw some power-play time.
Game 1 featured 127 hits, including 68 by the Kings, and the rugged play continued in Game 2, with the same physical theme.
On the Kings' side, coach John Steven's post game interview had the aura of a morgue. "Now we've got to go home to take care of business at home". Tuch was in front of the net to clean it up for his first career playoff goal, giving the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead late in the first period. After Shea Theodore's goal 3:23 into the first period, it turned into a defensive battle with a hint of goaltending.
