The Syrian government's staunch allies strongly condemned the overnight airstrikes on Assad regime targets, with Iran's supreme leader branding as "criminals" President Donald Trump, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Syrian air defense forces targeted an Israeli F-16 fighter jet that was involved in the attack with over 25 anti-aircraft missiles.
Early on Saturday, the USA, the United Kingdom and France fired more than 100 missiles from ships and manned aircraft at Syria in response to an alleged chemical attack in the city of Douma, which the countries blamed on Damascus.

While NATO has issued a strong statement of support for its three allies which launched a military strike against Syria over the suspected chemical attack of last weekend, the United Nations called for restraint.

Speaking via satellite link Friday to supporters in Beirut, Nasrallah also called the alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma "theater".
The Jewish state has not commented on the attack, but the United States said that Israel had warned it about the attack beforehand.
Public anger and objections to Iran's presence in Syria, and people's frustration with a collapsing economy, turned into protests in January. Officials also said the strike was larger than a similar attack on the Assad regime launched past year. It fears Iran could use Syrian territory to stage attacks or form a land corridor from Iran to Lebanon that could allow it to transfer weapons more easily to Hezbollah - Lebanon's Iranian-backed political party and militant group sworn to Israel's destruction. The United States would not be going to war with Assad or his chief allies, Russian Federation and Iran.
The presence of Russian troops and air defenses in Syria were among numerous complications weighing on Trump, who must also consider the dangers to roughly 2,000 American troops in the country if Russia were to retaliate for US strikes.
