Ulster Bank is blaming "human error" for a glitch affecting customer accounts in the Republic of Ireland.

Ulster Bank has said it has now resolved the problem that resulted in money disappearing from the accounts of some customers.

Ulster Bank has also announced that they will make emergency cash of up to €500 available to anyone affected by this.

The bank thanked customers for their patience and apologised "for any inconvenience caused", adding: "We will ensure no customer is left out of pocket as a result of this issue".

"What's going on with your banking system again?"

The bank, the Irish unit of RBS, said some customer transactions made since Friday were not showing on accounts.

Donegal TD Pearse Doherty TD has responded to the claims to say that "answers are needed from Ulster Bank".

Ten weeks after the initial problem, the bank was still warning some customers that their statements might not be correct.

TDs have called on Ulster Bank to explain why money has disappeared from some bank accounts.

"These IT failures are happening all too often at Ulster Bank and the question has to be asked if it is the result of a lack of investment by the bank".

This is not the first time that something like this has happened with Ulster Bank. "Emergency cash is available in branch or via telephone", the bank said.

"I have just had my card declined".

Any customer who has questions about the issue can contact the bank online or by calling 1850 424 365 (from overseas 00353 1 8047475).

Ulster Bank says it is working hard to fix the issue "as a matter of urgency".

Another stated: "My salary has disappeared from my account today and my wife had her card declined when trying to pay for a GP visit and medication".
