Special counsel Robert Mueller is interested in asking President Donald Trump a variety of questions related to the 2016 campaign and people who have figured in Trump's personal life, business interactions and administration, according to Mueller's list of questions for Trump obtained and reported on by The New York Times.

Robert Mueller's special counsel team has shared more than 40 questions they hope to ask President Trump about their investigation.

The questions deal mainly with Trump's high-profile firings of former FBI Director James Comey and his first National Security Adviser Michael Flynn; his treatment of Attorney General Jeff Sessions; and a 2016 Trump Tower meeting between campaign officials and Russians offering dirt on former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, possible collusion with the Trump campaign and whether the president has unlawfully tried to obstruct the probe.

Numerous questions obtained by The Times focus on the obstruction issue, including Mr Trump's angry criticism of Attorney-General Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Russian Federation investigation.

As per usual of late, House Intelligence Committee Republicans and Democrats issued separate reports last week with the GOP version declaring that there is "no evidence" of collusion between President Donald Trump, or his campaign, and the Russians.

Mueller also wants to know about the two publicly known occasions in which Trump moved to fire the special counsel, the questions show, according to The Times.

Perhaps the most intriguing question regarding possible collusion is about Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman. The Times said it obtained the list from a person outside Trump's legal team.

Speaking before a friendly audience, which often broke into applause, Comey spoke about his observations of Trump, Mueller's investigation and the impact Trump's presidency is having on the American political landscape. He is believed to be cooperating with Mueller.

"What efforts were made to reach out to Mr Flynn about seeking immunity or possible pardon?" goes another.

Mueller's team has suggested Trump is not considered a criminal target.

But despite the Trump haters' best attempts to make something old into something new, the "informant" craze only had a half-life of about 48 hours.
