US Prepares to Relocate Its Embassy to Jerusalem

Earlier, US Embassy road signs were erected in Jerusalem on Monday a week before Washington was due to relocate its mission, a move that has infuriated the Arab and Muslim worlds.

Israel claims the entire city as its eternal capital.

It remains unclear if President Trump will be on hand to officially open the diplomatic headquarters.

The current American plan is to announce the existing consular building in southern Jerusalem as the embassy's location, and move only a small number of offices from the embassy in Tel Aviv to that building as an initial step.

"This is not a dream".

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat takes his job very seriously, so seriously in fact, that he personally went out to hang up some of the new street signs pointing to the way to the new US Embassy in Jerusalem.

Israel occupied east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it.

The last round of peace talks on a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip collapsed in 2014. The Palestinians, on the other hand, see the eastern sector as the capital of their future state and oppose any Israeli attempt to extend sovereignty.

The White House said at the time that the question is "not if that move happens, but only when". Jason Greenblatt, the president's chief representative for Middle East peace negotiations, will also attend.

President Trump has denied that USA officials told Israel's Defence Minister Avigdor Liberman about the request to transfer control of four areas that would become the capital of a new Palestinian state under the U.S. peace plan.

The opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem will be expensive, but it's worth it.

Two days later, Guatemala will inaugurate its new embassy in Jerusalem's Malha Technological Park, in the presence of President Jimmy Morales.
