  • Mariners' Robinson Cano suffers a broken bone in his hand on a hit by pitch

The Seattle Mariners fell to the Detroit Tigers Sunday 4-5 after Robinson Cano left the game in the third with a broken right hand after he was hit by a pitch.

The Mariners announced that Cano has a fractured fifth metacarpal.

Detroits Blaine Hardy allowed two runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in his first major league start after 167 relief appearances.

Castellanos was hit by a pitch in the first inning of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and he left soon after that.

Robinson Cano chased Fulmer from the game in the fifth when he hit a 3-run home run to make it 6-2 Seattle. He hit a three-run homer in Seattle's win Saturday night. Niko Goodrum homered and had three hits for the Tigers. The Mariners have opened the season with a 22-16 record. Before that? He last had to go to the DL for just over a month in 2006 with a strained left hamstring while playing for the Yankees. Cano is one of the best second basemen in the game, so no matter who Seattle uses to replace him, it figures to be a sizable downgrade. Wade LeBlanc (0-0) starts for the Mariners against Jake Odorizzi (3-2).
