He said on both shows that the objective was to prevent North Korea from having the capability to strike the United States with a nuclear weapon.

Then, between 23 and 25 May, a ceremony will be held in which " tunnels will be flown from test field and ir entrances will be completely blocked", according to North Korean Foreign Ministry.

Satellite images show that North Korea has begun dismantling its nuclear-test site, razing several key buildings and removing rails weeks ahead of its summit with the United States, according to a monitoring website. This is the first time that the USA government mentioned a specific place in its territory to store North Korea's nuclear facilities and materials to be dismantled.

"The Nuclear Weapon Institute and other concerned institutions are taking technical measures for dismantling the northern nuclear test ground.in order to ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test", KCNA said.

The meeting between Moon and Kim resulted in few specifics and was largely seen as a prelude to the first-ever U.S.

The commitments came ahead of a summit to be held between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and the US President Donald Trump to discuss a possible end to Pyongyang's nuclear program. Guards and researchers will be withdrawn, and the area surrounding the test site will be closed.

The reclusive state also released three USA citizens imprisoned in North Korea as newly confirmed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Pyongyang for a second time last week to prepare for Donald Trump's upcoming summit.

Pyongyang's pledge could open the way for airlines to route flights through North Korean airspace.

As reported by the Yonhap news agency on Monday, Thae Yong-ho a former London-based North Korean diplomat expressed doubts over the possibility of a complete denuclearization of North Korea. After decades of hostility and threats of nuclear attacks, these new developments between US, North Korea and South Korea are groundbreaking, and hint at finally achieving some hope of reconciliation in the Korean peninsula, after almost seventy years of enmity.

Over the years peaceful gestures made by the North Korean regime with respect to its nuclear program have not been particularly reliable.

The shutdown process will unfold under the presences of journalists, including those from the US and South Korea.

When asked if human rights would be on the agenda at the summit, for example, Pompeo said: "America's interest here is preventing the risk that North Korea will launch a nuclear weapon into LA or Denver".

"North Korea's diplomacy has always been a repeat of hardline and appeasement", Thae added.
