BREAKING Lions tigers and jaguar ESCAPE from zoo

Police told the Associated Press that all of the escaped animals are still believed to be on the grounds of the zoo, but locals have been warned to stay inside as a precaution.

Despite the false alarm, a bear that had escaped its cage during the flooding that washed away its enclosure's fences, was found and shot dead.

Hours after the alert was issued at Eifel Zoo in Lünebach, near the Belgian border, a drone spotted the big cats hiding in undergrowth within the zoo.

The Eifel Zoo houses about 400 animals, including about 60 exotic and native animals.

German media sources have reported that the privately owned Eifel zoo flooded overnight due to a storm which meant the animals were able to go free.

A large search operation was carried out, involving the fire services, the police and veterinarians, the spokesman said.

Local authorities did not give further details of the recapture but a spokesperson told AFP news agency that the animals were "in their cages".

In an earlier zoo incident two year ago, two lions broke out of their cages at the Leipzig zoo.

"That enabled multiple animals to escape".

Most were found on the grounds of the zoo and returned to their cages. While one was returned, the other was shot dead.
