Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel admits his side have to improve quickly if they are to make an impact at the World Cup.

On Saturday, Nigeria lost 2-1 to England in their latest friendly and they are expected to face Czech Republic in Vienna on Wednesday in their final warm-up match.

Nigeria were punished for a dismal first half display as goals from Gary Cahill and Harry Kane put England in control.

Nigeria are in a group dubbed the "group of death" with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.

"We have to learn together as a team, we have to improve and that is why we played this game against such a quality side so we can know where we are and now we go back to training and try and improve". Coach Rohr confessed: "We will try to come out of this hard group then we will see".

But the Nigeria boss blamed their slow start on fatigue caused by a hard journey to England and rain that stopped them training the day before the match.

"The first lesson is that we are not ready yet and we have to work out in the two weeks we have before the first game. We had the ball unlike the first half when we were running after the ball".

"It was incredible to get on the pitch, that's all we work for is to be on the pitch week in, week out, and it was just really nice to get on the pitch and get the win".

"He's in England, and struggling for his life, and we will play for him at this World Cup".

Kane scored England's second goal with a fine finish and linked play with confidence in the final third. It was much better. We changed to 3-5-2.

Gareth Southgate has warned his players that the use of video assistant referees at the World Cup means that there will be no hiding place for anyone tempted to dive or commit other acts of indiscipline this summer.

Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel played the whole 90 minutes and was impressed by what he saw from Southgate's men. "If I got left out I wouldn't have had any complaints because I had to meet up at 11 o'clock, flight got delayed and I was a bit late in the morning so I completely understand where he's (the manager) coming from". The beginning was the opportunity for us to change our formation at half time.

"In the second half we corrected some mistakes and played a lot better".
