Italian tennis player Marco Cecchinato stunned the world when he defeated former world number 1, Novak Djokovic. There were moments in that tiebreak when it felt like Djokovic would force the final set and then there was a freakish moment, when Djokovic skied the ball when he could have taken the set.

Dimitrov, the 2017 ATP Finals champion, conceded his serve once but broke his rival's serve, forcing the set into a tie break.

Djokovic, seeded 20th as he continues his return from an elbow injury, was visibly angry in the second set, which he lost on a tie-break.

A tight first set heated up in the 10th game when Zverev saved two set points, the second after becoming incensed when the umpire overturned a line call of out from a Khachanov shot. "Maybe the match would be shorter, but at the same time, credit to him".

Verdasco, who beat fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in the previous round, needed treatment for blisters as Djokovic was made to wait before serving out for two-love lead.

Djokovic will next play another Spanish player, Fernando Verdasco.

Keys, the US Open runner-up to Stephens past year, will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva for a place in the semi-finals, after the world number 98 saw off Barbora Strycova 6-4, 6-3.

"Well, I'm young, so I might as well stay on court, get some practice and entertain you guys", smiled Zverev, who is bidding to become the first German man to win the French Open since 1937.

The clay courts of Roland Garros host the second Grand Slam of the season.

When he qualified for the last eight at the French Open, Marco Cecchinato said it was the happiest day of his life. He deserved. And that's something everybody should do.On the other hand, when you walk off the court, of course, it's a hard one to swallow.' Asked if it's the most painful defeat in his career, Djokovic replied: 'No.

The Italian, who has one career title to Djokovic's 68, had never won a match at the majors before this year's French Open.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion smashed his racket into the ground on three occasions after he missed a simple forehand, drawing boos from the crowd.

He admitted he was also close to quitting at 1-5 down in the second set.

The Serbian, who is not committed to any event before The Championships, commented: 'I don't know if I'm going to play on grass.

Nothing should be taken away from Thiem's victory, however, after he carved an easier route to the quarters and is rewarded for his work with a spot in the final four, where he'll face Cecchinato.
