  • Lakers Rumors: LA's Pitch to Sign Paul George Has Been Revealed

After spending seven seasons with the Indiana Pacers George was traded last summer to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oklahoma City Thunder wing Paul George is one of the biggest names available in free agency this summer.

The move, which was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, will make George an unrestricted free agent. The Los Angeles Lakers will receive serious consideration too, sources said. For one, he'll likely now sign a max contract, with the Thunder having the option to bring him back on a massive deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and "several other teams" are interested in landing George, according to Wojnarowski, although this looks like a two-horse race between the Lakers and Thunder. Added he likes Sam Presti, Billy Donovan, and playing with Russell Westbrook.

"This inside story is just another way that SportsCenter will offer distinctive content on free agency, one of the biggest offseason stories in the National Basketball Association", said David Roberts, ESPN vice president, network content, who oversees the 6 p.m. SportsCenter. The final episode of the series will air after George makes his decision in free agency. "A lot is playing into this, so it's a bit overwhelming".

In 79 games last season, George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and two steals per game in 36.6 minutes per game.

"Here they have made a huge risk in trading for me, knowing I have one year on my deal", George said, as transcribed by Brett Dawson of The Oklahoman.

ESPN will chronicle his journey in a three-part series, titled "Paul George: My Journey". George scored just five points on 2-of-16 shooting in a Game 6 playoff loss to the Utah Jazz, and OKC failed to advance past the first round for the second straight season.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
