The issue affected Google Home and Google Home Mini - speakers that respond to voice commands - as well as Chromecast - a device that plugs into a television and allows people to watch video content. A Google spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that there's an issue affecting "some" of its customers of these platforms, and it's now investigating the issue and working on a solution. "We're investigating the issue and working on a solution".

In its official statement, Google did not outline a reason for the outage, but it said: "We've identified a fix for the issue impacting Google Home and Chromecast users and it will be automatically rolled out over the next six hours".

It has been some time since Google Home went down.

If you're an avid Google Home and or Chromecast user, there's a chance that you've encountered an error message this morning or just found that your device isn't working. Another Twitter user suggested that a recent privacy update caused the issue.

@madebygoogle so, I completely depend on my Google home/Chromecast for entertainment. I even tried factory reset but Google home is replying with same command. Normal service is disrupted for many users across the globe. "Download Google Home app". The other way is to head into the Google Home app, tap the Devices button in the top right corner, and see a list of your Google Home devices.

We can't say for sure how many devices aren't working, but it seems to be pretty widespread.

Google Home and Chromecast owners started reporting issues to Google early Wednesday morning, according to online help forums for both devices.

We've reached out to Google for comment, and we will update this article if and when we receive a response as well as when the issue is resolved.
