Buhari said he is very sad to learn of the tragic loss of lives, tens of vehicles, property and other valuables in the petrol tanker fire.

Nine persons lost their lives in the petrol tanker fire around Otedola bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday.

The statement added that the state government was clearing damaged vehicles from the road.

A dashcam footage of the moment preceeding the Thursday, June 28, tanker explosion on Otedola bridge in Lagos has emerged.

As at the time of filing this report, the total number of vehicles caught in the huge inferno was yet to be ascertained just as the number occupants in them. He also urged motorists to continue to adhere to the safety standard and the State Traffic Laws so as to prevent a re-occurrence of such incidents.

ADP noted that it was too unsafe for highly inflammable substances such as PMS and liquefied gas to be transported with other road users at the same time, calling on the state government to come up with a timetable for movement of petroleum products and other heavy-duty trucks capable of causing a frequent road accident.

The FRSC also said in its update that the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

According to the police, the explosion had left nine dead while a total of 54 vehicles were burnt.

The tanker, five buses, two trucks, a tricycle and 45 cars got burnt.

A spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Commission, Bisi Kazeem, said the crash happened around Otedola bridge on the section of the road heading out of Lagos.

At the scene were emergency responders from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
