Heidi Heitkamp, as totally out of touch. He urged supporters to vote for Republican Senate challenger Kevin Cramer to replace Sen.

Trump is scheduled to appear at a rally Wednesday evening in a 6,000-seat Fargo hockey arena in a burst of campaign appearances that has included Nevada, Minnesota and SC.

The political realities of the state are not lost on Heitkamp, who relies on her bipartisan credentials and personal appeal in the state, and has not been afraid to tout her working relationship with President Trump and maintain a measured distance between herself and the brand of the national Democratic Party. He cited Heitkamp's votes against tax cuts he signed into law in December, and against the ObamaCare repeal, as well as support for so-called "sanctuary cities". She's largely backed the oil-rich state's corporate interests on energy and has opposed some restrictions on guns. "But she will vote no the day after the election, on everything".

He criticized her for voting against Republican health care and tax legislation, and evoked loud boos when he said she voted against a bill "to stop late-term abortions".

"You are the people who farm the prairie, tamed the badlands and squeezed oil out of rock", Trump said, speaking directly to the North Dakota citizens who lived under "big lovely skies".

Cramer added, turning toward the president: "You never have to wonder where I will be because I will always be with them and with you".

"On behalf of the most forgotten people", Cramer said to the president as both men took the stage to deafening applause, "the unborn babies, thank you for standing for life".

President Donald Trump's stepped-up campaign tour this week is taking him to North Dakota to help a Republican candidate who reluctantly entered a high-stakes Senate race and then questioned the support he has received from the White House.

All of this is true, which is why Cramer began to smell a rat this month when Trump kept playing nice with Heitkamp. He said most of his neighbors voted for Trump but are "not getting what they thought" from the president.

"It's a very tough situation", he said.

Crowley's loss was a shocking defeat.

Trump said he was happy that Pelosi and California Rep. Maxine Waters would remain the faces of the Democratic Party. And I'm sure that was the story angle Heitkamp's people were pitching.

The rally comes as Trump takes a victory lap.

"He felt confident in me to make the right choice and carry on his great legacy, that's why he did it", Trump said at a campaign rally in Fargo.

Mr. Trump said he needed more Republicans in Congress, especially in the narrowly-divided Senate where he will soon seek the confirmation of a replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

"We are going to make trade fair and reciprocal", Trump said. "We need intellect ... so many elements go into the making of a great justice of the Supreme Court". "A vote for any Democrat is a vote for Schumer, Pelosi and Maxine - Maxine, she's a beauty".
