Kevin Durant To Sign 2-Year, $61.5M Deal With Warriors

  • Draymond Green, Kevin Durant Are Trying To Get The Warriors To Sign This Free Agent

Free agent forward Kevin Durant has agreed to a deal with the Golden State Warriors, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania. Not only do they get to keep the 2017 and 2018 NBA Finals MVP, but they also get some financial flexibility in the deal. But that doesn't mean Durant is looking for the long-term deal many will seek in the free agent market. Weeks ago Durant made clear that his re-signing with the Warriors was a certainty. If Durant declines the option, he could re-sign next summer for as much as $219 million over five years, as NBC Sports Bay Area Warriors Insider Monte Poole pointed out earlier this week. Kerr said after winning the 2018 NBA Finals that he would need the money to pay off a new house in San Francisco.

Three of the NBA's biggest stars are off the market.

The 33-year-old averaged 18.6 points and 7.9 assists in 58 regular season games for Houston, but his hamstring injury and absence in the final two games of the Western Conference Finals doomed the Rockets against Golden State.

The Lakers have always been mentioned as a top destination for James, and they have more salary cap space this summer than any team in the National Basketball Association.

In all, Sportsnet Stats noted National Basketball Association teams committed over $543 million in contracts in the first 30 minutes of free agency early Sunday morning. But going to LA on Saturday doesn't necessarily provide any hint about his team for next season, since James has homes in Southern California.
