Conservative federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh and Raymond Kethledge are the two most serious contenders who President Donald Trump is considering for the U.S. Supreme Court, a source familiar with the process said on Thursday.

Multiple sources told Fox News that while Lee is on the president's broader list of 25 potential candidates he has vowed to choose from, he is not now under consideration to replace Kennedy.

"This is a major vulnerability for Heitkamp, Donnelly, and Manchin. but also for people like Bob Casey [a Democrat from Pennsylvania] who calls himself pro-life, Claire McCaskill, and other vulnerable Democrats in states that Trump won overwhelmingly", says Ms. Quigley.

LAT: Judge Brett Kavanaugh is an extremely well credentialed, highly regarded judge on the D.C. Circuit, which is really the second most important and influential court in the country after the Supreme Court. IL law protects it. Trump conducted interviews on Monday and Tuesday and has spoken to seven possible candidates. The "person that is chosen will be outstanding".

"We've had bad decisions overturned in the past", Beckwith said.

His selection has the potential to cement the court's conservative majority for years and could lead to the reconsideration of significant precedents, including the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision. Republicans hold 51 seats in the Senate and need at least 50 votes to confirm Trump's pick.

But Barrett's recent ascension to the appeals court means she does not have the long, conservative record that lawmakers on the right find reassuring.

As Trump's list tightened, there was some internal concern that the president's options could be narrowed by the public outcry - particularly what had appeared to be mounting conservative reservations about Kavanaugh. Along with the top three, he interviewed this week federal appeals judges Amul Thapar, Thomas Hardiman and Joan Larsen. He's a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School.

"Lee safeguards Trump's Supreme Court legacy for all time, because there is not a single soul out there who can doubt that he would remain true to the convictions he has fought for his entire life", Cruz said. After his clerkships, he joined one of Michigan's top law firms before becoming in-house counsel for Ford Motor Company. He is based in MI. She's a former law professor at Notre Dame. But the tactical approach in question - appealing directly to the American public - speaks to the extent to which the court of popular opinion has become a formidable force in USA politics in the aftermath of Trump's election. "We know the list was put together by the Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation, those are two organizations that are devoted to a very, very conservative vision of law", said Shapiro. He's expected to announce his nomination Monday. In her 20s she co-authored a paper that said Catholic judges, if they are faithful to church teachings, are "morally precluded" from enforcing the death penalty. As soon as Kennedy announced his retirement plans in late June, Democrats mobilized against Trump's eventual pick, arguing that anyone he selects would help roll back abortion rights, Affordable Care Act protections, same-sex marriage and scores of other decisions that have shaped modern America while ruling in favor of corporations and against under-represented minorities. "They're good judges. I think they'd be fine justices of the Supreme Court".

"We saw Sen. McConnell's extraordinary leadership at the time of Scalia's death - this is a continuation of that", he said.
