Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Seeks Permission To Hire 40 More Foreign Workers

  • What Trump's Mar-A-Lago trips cost taxpayers

The postings show that - despite Trump's insistence that immigration is holding down wages and crowding out native-born American workers - his club believes it can not find any Americans in South Florida who are qualified to hold two very common restaurant-industry jobs.

Despite touting a campaign slogan of "America First", Trump has defended the hiring of foreign workers.

President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club has applied for permission to hire 61 foreign workers to serve as waiters and cooks during the winter social season in Palm Beach, Florida, according to data posted this week by the Labor Department.

The president's opulent Florida beach club wants to hire 21 immigrant cooks from October to May, and another 40 temporary foreign wait staff.

The Florida resort requested 61 H-2B visas, which are visas for temporary non-agricultural workers.

Another was the Salvation Army, which in the past, held charitable events at both The Breakers and Mar-a-Lago.

For all his tough talk on immigration from his election campaign to the ongoing migrant crisis brought about by his draconian policies, it seems rather weird Trump wants foreign workers over USA residents for his beloved resort.

Trump is a regular weekend visitor to Mar-a-Lago, which he dubbed "the Winter White House". Despite there being over 5,000 qualified Americans available to work various positions at President Trump's resort, "The Trump Organization hired at least 1,260 foreign workers from 2001 to 2006, according to a CNN analysis".

"It's very, very hard to get people", he said during a GOP primary debate in 2016.

Trump's foreign hiring spree comes as he took to Twitter to hail the latest U.S. employment figures, writing 'JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!' Earlier this year, the company asked to hire 14 foreign workers to be cooks and waiters at the Trump golf club in Westchester County, New York. Apart from many other ramifications, it could blow back on his beloved resort as it majorly relies on foreign workers, a lot of them Haitians, to fill seasonal jobs that Americans apparently don't want. The Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Va., is looking for 23 H-2B visas.
