Ex-FBI chief of staff: Collusion is ‘absolutely a crime’

  • CNN Legal Analyst: I Would Be Surprised If Mueller ‘Didn’t Conclude the President Obstructed Justice’

Mr Trump tweeted: "Collusion is not a crime, but that doesn't matter because there was No Collusion (except by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats)!"

Somewhat notably, Trump went after Mueller by name in multiple tweets raging against the "witch hunt" yesterday, accusing Mueller himself of harboring multiple conflicts of interest.

Legal experts say Giuliani and Trump have a point: there is no federal law or statue making campaign collusion a crime.

The former NY mayor said if Trump is interviewed by Mueller's legal team, "Our real concern is they're going to set up a perjury trap", attempting to catch Trump, who often misstates facts, in a lie, which is a criminal offense.

"I don't know what happened to him", Giuliani said.

"Giuliani's comments follow former FBI Director James Comey's assertion during a CNN town hall in April that, "[Collusion]"is not actually a thing that exists under the federal laws of the United States".

"In several interviews on Monday, Giuliani asserted that collusion is not a crime".

Trump himself on Tuesday tweeted that collusion was not a crime, adding that it didn't matter any way because there was no collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation, which intelligence agencies have concluded meddled in the 2016 election.

"I'm happy to tell Mueller that Trump wasn't at the Trump Tower meeting", Giuliani said.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump campaign officials worked with Moscow to try to sway the 2016 US presidential election, something commonly referred to as collusion by the media and public officials.

North Korean Deputy Prime Minister Ri Ryong Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister Chie Hui Choi, Deputy Director-General of the Asia Department Park Hyun Chol and Asia Department chief Ri Ho Juun also attended the meeting, the release said. Citing two unnamed White House advisers, the newspaper said Mueller and the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia had a dispute over fees when Mueller resigned as a member in 2011.

Fox News reported liberal icon Alan Dershowitz speculated that Mueller hopes the charges he filed against Paul Manafort will force the onetime Trump campaign manager to reveal something incriminating about the president.

Russian Federation has denied the finding of USA intelligence agencies past year that it interfered to sway the election to Trump. A successful conviction would give momentum to Mueller since the probe began 14 months ago. In fact, prosecutors said last week they don't expect the word "Russia" to be mentioned at all.
