The White House on Monday blamed Rouhani for inciting a war of words with President Donald Trump, who warned that verbal threats could escalate into military conflict with the U.S. President Trump, who campaigned on a promise to bring a more hawkish approach to Iran, sent an all-caps tweet late Sunday warning of dire consequences for the longtime foe. That's what America is trying to get Iran to stop doing.

"For Bolton and others, pressure is an end in and of itself", Suzanne Maloney, deputy director of the foreign policy program at the Brookings Institution, said. The government pledged last week to provide basic commodities to the poor, but many emphasized feelings of panic among Iranians as a result of rising US-Iranian tensions.

The United States has told other countries they must halt imports of Iranian oil starting in early November or face us financial measures.

But Trump's withdrawal from the Iran deal has tanked its economy badly.

ATR, jointly owned by European consortium Airbus and Italy's Leonardo, has been pushing USA officials to allow it to finish its delivery of aircraft to Iran.

"I'm ready to meet anytime they want to", Trump said of Iran during a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday. The strait at the mouth of the Persian Gulf is crucial to global energy supplies as about a third of all oil traded at sea passes through it.

Hundreds have rallied in cities across the country, including Tehran, Isfahan and Karaj, according to videos posted on social media, to protest against high inflation caused in part by a plunging rial over fears of the reimposition of crippling sanctions on August 7. "The Trump administration is doing that on goal to keep everyone feeling threatened", said a Western businessman in Tehran working in the oil and gas sector.

Iran has also been hit by falling salaries set against the rising cost of living, while water shortages and power outages have also hit the embattled country.

Footage posted online showed dozens of marchers in central Tehran chanting, "Death to the dictator", referring to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The authenticity of the videos could not immediately be verified.

Fars also reported Saturday that a man taking part in a protest in the northern province of Alborz was fatally shot on Friday. Authorities said by early evening, all protesters had dispersed. There were no additional details. The first round of USA sanctions on Iran goes into effect in August, followed by ones targeting Iran's oil exports in November.
