Trump just made two problematic admissions about the Trump Tower meeting

President Trump attorney Jay Sekulow on Sunday blamed "bad information" for erroneously denying that the president had a role in his campaign's response to a key June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower.

However, he revealed in his tweet what many have alleged for more than a year: that the infamous Trump Tower meeting during the height of the 2016 presidential campaign was about obtaining damaging information on Clinton, his opponent for the White House, whom Trump did not specifically mention in his tweet.

And Trump once again defended the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting in which his son met with a Kremlin-connected lawyer saying it was "totally legal" and that he didn't know about it.

Sekulow claimed previous year that Trump had not approved of a statement in response to a Times article on the meeting, which reportedly included not only Trump Jr., but other campaign officials who were offered dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Trump was apparently responding to reporting from The Washington Post and other outlets that the president has been increasingly brooding in private about the Mueller probe, particularly as it relates to his son's possible entanglement in the investigation.

Donald Jr initially said in a statement to The New York Times that the meeting was "primarily" about American adoptions of Russian children.

Trump's admission that his son's 2016 Russian meeting was to get information on Clinton runs counter to the narrative he has previously pushed about the meeting.

Sekulow's vow comes as another member of the president's legal team - Rudy Giuliani - said negotiations on Trump sitting down with Mueller's team are wrapping.

The president's attorneys at first denied Trump's involvement in drafting the response to the Times, but months later, in a letter meant to explain why Mueller should not interview Trump, they agreed that the president had, in fact, been the author of the statement.

Russian Federation has repeatedly denied claims it interfered in the November 2016 presidential elections, where Mr Trump defeated Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

"Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don jr attended in order to get info on an opponent", Trump wrote on Twitter.

"The question is how will it be illegal?" Trump Jr. has told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he couldn't remember if he told his father about the meeting.

President Donald Trump began his Sunday morning with media-bashing tweets so virulent - the "enemy of the people" are "very unsafe & sick!" and "can also cause War!" - that journalists and the Sunday morning Beltway programs immediately struck back. He made the claim standing next to Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki last month, and then a day later during a Cabinet meeting at the White House.

President Trump denies any collusion.

This was initially denied by Mr Trump's team, but his lawyers later confirmed that he had in fact dictated his son's statement.

"Let's be honest with the American people, there are irregularities in this investigation, the likes of which we have not seen", Sekulow added later.

This is another reason why Trump shouldn't meet with Mueller. And at a trio of rallies, he escalated his already vitriolic rhetoric toward the media, savaging the press for unflattering coverage and, he feels, bias. "They can also cause War!"
