Cal Fire San Luis Obispo posted on twitter Thursday that Strike Team 9341C is stationed in neighborhoods defending structures at the Holy Fire.

The deadly fire has been burning for more than two weeks and consumed 178,752 acres as of Thursday night.

More than 14,000 firefighters are working across the state, with crews from Australia and New Zealand assisting.

"I've been trying for years to get someone to pay attention and nobody has really had the opportunity to do that until now", he said.

Clark has reportedly had conflicts with his neighbors for years and sent an email warning, "This place will burn" to a volunteer fire chief last week...

"Our main focus this afternoon was getting everyone out safely", said Thanh Nguyen, a spokesman for the crews battling the Holy Fire.

A state of emergency for the area has been declared by governor Jerry Brown.

If Clark is convicted he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

"For those wondering about containment, the hand/containment line grows as the fire grows".

Andy Edman, chief of the science technology infusion division at the National Weather Service, says small particles of smoke that come from the fires can stay in the air and move through the Earth's atmosphere - all the way to the East Coast.

Before his arrest, Clark told a freelance cameraman he was asleep when the fire started and had no idea how it began. He also claimed he had been threatened by the MS-13 gang.

More than 21,000 people and 7,400 homes have been evacuated in and around the city of Lake Elsinore, where flames and billowing smoke rose into the sky at the edge of the city of 60,000 near the Santa Ana Mountains.

High temperatures were expected to worsen conditions and "increase the likelihood of extreme fire behavior as well as heat illness issues for the firefighters and the public", it said.

Clark, who is being held on $1 million bond, is slated to appear in court Thursday (Friday NZT), records show. On Thursday, the Orange County district attorney's office announced that Clark had been charged with one felony count each of aggravated arson of five or more inhabited structures; arson of inhabited property; arson of forest; criminal threats; two felony counts of resisting and deterring an executive officer; and a sentencing enhancement for arson burning multiple structures.

The 279-square-mile Carr Fire had already killed two other firefighters, a utility worker along with three members of one family, and has destroyed almost 1,100 homes.

No more homes were torched on Friday but some 20,000 people remained under evacuation orders. "Steep terrain, dry fuels, and inaccessible areas continue to be a factor in fire spread", the U.S. Forest Service said on the Inciweb fire tracking website.

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station captured images of smoke from these fires from space earlier this week, showing the smoke's eastward shift and massive reach.
