  • Perseid meteor shower comet hit earth dinosaurs

STARGAZERS across the region are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Perseid meteor shower, which will be at its best this weekend. Often considered one of the most prolific, handsome meteor showers of the year, viewers may get a chance to see 50 to 60 meteors an hour, with the possibility of seeing hundreds during a single hour.

Although the meteor shower is likely to be most easy to spot from earth on Sunday night, it has been visible since the end of July and will remain so for a further two weeks.

Meteors passed through the sky at a rate of about 60-70 an hour, and sometimes more than one at once, as seen in Kozjak in the Former Yugoslav Republic of MacedoniaGEORGI LICOVSKI/EPAHajnacka, Slovakia.

In many ways, Perseids is the most impressive meteor shower for the naked eyes.

For 2018 however, Sark is considered as the best place to see the shower with it's lack of light pollution. Others are brighter and can appear to sail across our sky for several seconds, leaving a glowing smoke trail.

The best views of the Perseids in Sweden will be in the south of the country, according to website Populär Astronomi. Wherever you are this weekend, keep in mind to look up.

And don't forget to grab your camera before you head out.

And it's expected to be the last time that this specific meteor will be seen until 2026.

Cooke went on to describe how viewers can expect to see a meteor every minute or so, which is about standard for the Perseids shower. NASA will also be streaming a view of the sky from the NASA Meteor Watch Facebook Page.
