Well here we are folks, after some very dodgy leaked footage emerged a few days ago, Fox have now released the official trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

It is a direct sequel to 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse and revolves around Sophie Turner's Jean Grey being possessed by an all-powerful evil entity, the titular Dark Phoenix. After a mission in space goes wrong, Jean Grey returns as a changed person.

There are apocalyptic consequences, it appears, if they let her turn into the supremely powerful mutant, known in the comics as Phoenix. As she battles with this new reality, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can't understand or contain.

With any luck, this take on the legendary Dark Phoenix saga will give fans of the comic what they desperately wanted after the lackluster 2006 adaptation in X-Men: The Last Stand.

The character has been previously shown in the original X-Men trilogy, in which she was played by Famke Janssen, who reprised her role for a cameo in The Wolverine.

The trailer first hit on The Late, Late Show with James Corden last night and has since been released worldwide on YouTube.

It's been a bumpy few days for Dark Phoenix: after the trailer was reportedly shown in Russian Federation, a low-quality version soon leaked online. Who is it? Based on Beast's tears and not really anything else, our money's on Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).

Dark Phoenix is the twelfth film in the X-Men series and is the start of a new trilogy. With both Dark Phoenix and Game of Thrones season 8 coming out in 2019, we are truly blessed when it comes to Sophie Turner content!

BL Verdict: The trailer looks epic.

Dark Phoenix drops from orbit on February 14th, and you can readily expect a full, frame-by-frame analysis of the film's first trailer later this evening on We Got This Covered.
