  • World leaders laugh as Trump boasts of accomplishments during UN speech

The incident took place during Trump's speech to the annual UN General Assembly. Key European Union players, including Britain, are now putting at risk the credibility of the transatlantic alliance.

Trump re-imposed some sanctions on Iran in August that targeted its trade in gold and other precious metals and pushed the price of oil higher.

Despite their best intentions and ongoing efforts to sustain benefits for Iran, remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal - Europe, China and Russian Federation - have been unable to do enough to stop Iran's economy from suffering seemingly uncontrollable bleeding. This so-called special objective vehicle is supposed to ease payments linked to Iranian exports and imports, providing...

On North Korea, Trump called for sanctions to be strictly enforced against Pyongyang - a message directed at Russian Federation and China which are pushing for an easing of punitive measures to reward North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"It was me who said no, not them", he told reporters while sitting next to Colombian President Ivan Duque.

"It does shift significantly away from the benefits that the United States has achieved in its partnerships and alliances with other countries as it better reflects President Trump's zero-sum worldview", he said.

Last month, we began re-imposing hard-hitting nuclear sanctions that had been lifted under the Iran deal.

The president has removed the USA from the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran, citing the country's destabilizing actions throughout the region and support for terrorist groups like Hezbollah, and he accused its leaders on Tuesday of sowing "chaos, death and destruction".

After Trump, French President Emanuel Macron said that a "serious crisis of confidence" has emerged after US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump addresses the General Debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York, Sept. 25, 2018.

"We will never surrender America's sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable, global bureaucracy", Trump said, in language popular with his political base. Trump added, "So true".

He added that "Trump has isolated the United States instead of isolating Iran".

In a blunt attack on China, the USA president told the council that China wanted to see him suffer an elections setback because of his hard line on trade.

However, America's go-it-alone attitude and growing divisions among key world powers risk eroding the U.N.'s ability to bring positive change in global affairs and end conflicts in Syria, Yemen, and elsewhere. "We have tried sanctions over the years", said Swedish foreign minister Margot Wallstrom.

The president also mentioned within his address the U.S's foreign priorities, saying that he had met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and that progress had slowed in regards to North Korean nuclear weapon development. "We are standing up for America and for the American people, and we are also standing up for the world".
