Bibi's case has been high on the agenda of religious hardliners in Pakistan, many of whom are fiercely opposed to her release. We are grateful to God.

Asia Bibi appeared to be in state of disbelief after hearing the decision from her lawyer.

She was asked to fetch water, but the Muslim women objected, saying that as a non-Muslim she was unfit to touch the water bowl.

The party also called for the ousting of the government of new Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Asia Bibi was sentenced to death in 2010 on blasphemy charges.

The top judge added that the expression "proof beyond reasonable doubt" was of fundamental importance to the criminal justice and was one of the principles which sought to ensure that no innocent person was convicted. "We hope this time she will be completely exonerated and this wrongful conviction will finally be overturned as this is her last chance to be heard at court".

The Pakistani Supreme Court will decide Wednesday whether Asia Bibi will live or be executed. The women said that because she had drunk from a cup they could no longer use it, as her faith had made it unclean.

Several women called Bibi a "filthy Christian" and told her to convert to Islam. "Pakistan's Supreme Court must be appreciated that it upheld the law of the land and didn't succumb to any pressure".

The allegations against Bibi date back to June 2009, when she was labouring in a field and a row broke out with some Muslim women who alleged that she committed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

She won her appeal against the conviction and subsequent death sentence on Wednesday.

Pakistan's blasphemy laws and the the capital punishment for breaking them has drawn concern from global rights organizations, "not least because they are sometimes misused to settle feuds, grab land, or persecute religious minorities by making false allegations", NPR's Phillip Reeves has reported.

Her case drew the attention of global rights groups and swiftly became the most high-profile in the country.

Campaigners argue Pakistan's blasphemy laws are often based on thin evidence and used to get revenge for personal disputes. In addition to citing the Qur'an, the judges also referenced Shakespeare's King Lear, saying Bibi was "more sinned against than sinning".

This morning's hearing was Ms Bibi's final appeal against execution. Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab province, was shot and killed by one of his guards in 2011 for defending Bibi and criticizing the misuse of the blasphemy law. "For the past eight years, Asia Bibi's life languished in limbo", said Omar Waraich, deputy South Asia director for Amnesty International.
