Journalist Jamal Khashoggi was strangled nearly immediately after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, according to the first in-depth report from the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office.

The murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi could not be made without the approval of senior officials of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has arrested 18 suspects, who, it says, will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia.

A statement from chief Istanbul prosecutor Irfan Fidan's office also said that discussions with al-Mojeb have yielded no "concrete results" despite "good-willed efforts" by Turkey to uncover the truth.

Senate Democrats are demanding a classified briefing to find out if US intelligence knew anything beforehand about plans by Saudi Arabia to abduct or harm a writer for The Washington Post who was killed earlier this month.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Riyadh to disclose the identity of an alleged local collaborator said to have been involved in getting rid of Mr Khashoggi's body.

Saudi Arabia's Public Prosecutor Sheikh Saud Al-Muajab was returning to the Kingdom after completing his 72-hour visit to Turkey as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Mr Khashoggi, a Saudi national working for the United States press, was a well-known critic of his home country's rulers.

Turkish authorities have repeatedly accused Riyadh of causing hindrance in the ongoing investigations into the case by denying key pieces of evidence, including the whereabouts of the body.

Western powers have expressed outrage at his killing and demanded answers from Riyadh, although Trump warned against halting a Saudi arms deal to increase the pressure, saying it would harm U.S. jobs.

The statement follows weeks of media reports about the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.

The private DHA news agency reported that Mojeb also held talks at the regional head offices of the Turkish Intelligence Organisation (MIT) overnight.

"Let's know who this co-conspirator is, we can shed further light".

"It seems the Saudi prosecutor is trying to obtain the information in the hands of Turkey rather than share the information he has", Selvi wrote Wednesday.

Khashoggi, who lived in exile, had written critically of Saudi Arabia's crown prince.
