  • Report Newlyweds killed in helicopter crash while leaving their wedding

Only two hours after Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman tied the knot on November 3, the newlyweds boarded a Bell 206B helicopter near the Byler family ranch, approximately 15 miles northwest of Uvalde, Texas.

The National Transportation Safety Board reported on Twitter that they're investigating the crash.

Uvalde Police received a call from an aviation monitoring center around midnight Saturday notifying them of a possible downed aircraft.

Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler were seniors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, according to the school newspaper, The Houstonian, which broke the tragic news on social media over the weekend.

Byler's grandfather, William Byler, told the TV station that the couple died when a helicopter that had departed the wedding reception in crashed.

"We ask that you keep the Byler and Ackerman families in your thoughts and prayers", the Houstonian said. The aircraft's pilot, Gerald Green Lawrence, also was killed.

The Houstonian posted its condolences regarding the couple. Their engagement photos show a giddy couple, with Will in a cowboy hat and Bailee showing off her ring.

A November 3 wedding date was listed on a website for the Ackerman and Byler nuptials.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which is assisting with the investigation, said the helicopter "crashed under unknown circumstances in a remote area". "I believe it truly was the best day of their lives".

"I love them both so dearly and they will always be so special to me", Ellis said.
