Rick Scott's lawyer 'fully expecting' recount in Florida Senate race

  • Marco Rubio: Democrats Are Trying to Steal Florida Senate Race by Counting All the Votes

Under Florida law, a recount is mandatory if the margin of the winning candidate is less than 0.5 percentage points when the first unofficial count is verified Saturday by Florida's secretary of state.

The race between Democratic Senator Bill Nelson and Republican challenger Rick Scott, Florida's term-limited governor, was even closer: Scott leads by 17,344 votes, or 0.22%.

In Riviera Beach, the Palm Beach County Canvassing Board met Friday morning to review "anomalous" ballots not yet counted because of irregularities that prevented a machine-reading.

According to The Washington Post, Elias is the attorney representing the Bill Nelson campaign, who trails behind Gov. Rick Scott in the Senate race by just over 15,000 votes, as of November 8.

He said that local election supervisor Brenda Snipes, a Democrat, has a "horrible history" and is "finding votes out of nowhere". Those very votes may end up deciding who becomes the next governor of Florida, which explains why the woman supervising the election there has come under fire by Republicans. "This is like deja vu all over again".

In fact, the most significant and clear error by Broward County election officials-designing a ballot that may have led more than 20,000 voters in an overwhelmingly Democratic congressional district to not vote in the Senate race at all-almost certainly benefited Scott.

Mr. Trump has been fuming over the situation in Florida, hinting at unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud on the parts of Democrats, and on Friday tweeted a threat of federal intervention - that he is "sending much better lawyers" than the Democrats have "to expose the FRAUD!" Since 2000, when Florida decided the presidency by 537 votes in a contest that took more than five weeks to sort out, the state has seen many close elections, but never so many dead heats in one year.

"On Tuesday night, the Gillum for Governor campaign operated with the best information available about the number of outstanding ballots left to count".

Scott, expressing concern about "rampant fraud" in the two counties, also directed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the election offices.

He said that if Scott follows through on his "veiled threat" of blocking the ongoing count of "ballots that have been lawfully cast", he would quickly go to court. Nelson's lawyer called that race a "jump ball" - though Scott's campaign urged Nelson to concede.

Jackie Schutz Zeckman is campaign manager for Gov. Rick Scott, who ran against Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. "They are asking courts to overrule election officials and accept ballots that were not legally cast".

Nelson is suing the Florida Secretary of State and demanding the state count every mail-in and provisional ballot deemed to have a so-called "signature mismatch". Should be +1 NelsonForSenate AndrewGillum. "Must overhaul these ridiculous barriers to voting".

Trump also suggested fraud in Arizona, where Democrat Kyrsten Sinema jumped ahead of Republican Martha McSally late Thursday as additional votes were counted.

Appearing on Fox News, U.S. Sen. Postal officials claimed they had done nothing wrong.

Despite one of the candidates conceding on election night, the Florida governor's race tightened into a margin that could require a recount. Governor's races in Georgia and Florida and a U.S. Senate race in Florida are all near or below the thresholds to trigger recounts.

But Palm Beach was also the home to the infamous "butterfly ballot" that many Democrats believe cost Gore the election.
