The "voluntary" cuts come after the AIADMK staged protests across the state against screening the movie.

His cabinet colleague R B Udhayakumar thanked the film producers for respecting "the sentiments of Tamil people" and urged movie-makers to exercise restraint in future. The AIADMK has been protesting since the Diwali release of the movie with senior ministers demanding deletion of the objectionable scenes, besides threatening to initiate legal action if the film crew failed to comply.

"Sarkar" director AR Murugadoss moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

They also demanded certain scenes to be removed from the film. That said, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who also plays a negative role in the film took to her Twitter page to lash out at the state government questioning them as to whether they are so weak to be threatened by a film.

However, recently in an interview, TTV Dhinakaran revealed that Komalavalli is not the birth name of Jayalalithaa. "So the issue has come to an end".

"The protests (against the film) will not continue", he told reporters here.

"We have nothing to do with the film or Vijay", he said, even as he described the star as a 'dear friend'. He said the party's opposition had nothing to do with criticism of the government. "I strongly- condemn this act", the superstar tweeted in Tamil. The scene is a swipe at the freebie culture that exists in Tamil Nadu. In that scene, he's seen throwing a mixer-grinder into a fire with the picture of the chief minister. The ruling AIADMK party has opposed some of the scenes in the film and filed a complaint in the Madras High Court.

Sarkar is produced by Sun Pictures with music composed by ARRahman.
