  • An unknown number of homes and buildings in Paradise have been destroyed by the Camp Fire

San Luis Obispo County residents traveling south on Friday into Ventura County and Los Angeles should use caution and be prepared for delays and detours caused by two wildfires that have closed parts of Highway 101 and prompted evacuations.

The fire had crossed U.S. 101 a few miles east of Thousand Oaks - the site of Wednesday night's bar shooting massacre - and was headed south to the Pacific coast, in the direction of Malibu Creek State Park and Malibu city, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Meanwhile officials in northern California say a wildfire that devastated a town of 27,000 is moving north and have ordered people in two Sierra Nevada foothill communities to leave their homes.

Early Friday morning, the wildfire jumped the 101 in Ventura County into Agoura Hills, closing a 4-mile stretch of the highway.

The Woolsey fire destroyed dozens homes on Friday, including Caitlyn Jenner's, forcing total evacuations of Malibu and Hidden Hills in one of the worst L.A. blazes in recent memory. She and her husband eventually were able to drive away safely.

Ventura County Fire Department tweeted that intense winds fueled the fire overnight, leading it to jump 101.

Rescuers used a bulldozer to push abandoned cars out the way to reach Feather River Hospital and evacuate patients as flames engulfed the building, Butte County Supervisor Doug Teeter told reporters. While there have been injuries from the fire, there's no official tally of how many civilians and firefighters were hurt or possibly killed. He said he thought he could save her house, but they would only watch helplessly as their home burned.

The fire spread so quickly that residents were taken completely by surprise, leading to harrowing evacuation conditions such gridlocked traffic and fire-blocked streets.

FOX 11 reporter Gina Silva stood by with residents as the fire moved in on their Westlake Village homes.

As of Thursday evening, it was burning above Cal State University Channel Islands, in the footprint of the 2013 Springs Fire which burned 24,000 acres. Her deck provided a strong vantage point to monitor the spread of the fire.

There are two fires now burning around Malibu: the Hill and Woolsey fires.

As of 5:30 a.m. ET, the fire was 0% contained. "It just became so surreal", Mary said while standing outside the Thousand Oaks Teen Center, which had been established as one of several evacuation shelters in the area.
