Recordings related to Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death have been passed on to Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday.

November 11 Armistice Day marks the 1918 end of World War between the Allies and their opponent, Germany, on land, sea, and air.

Last month, Saudi Arabia shifted its explanation in an apparent effort to ease worldwide outrage over the death, characterising the killing as a rogue operation carried out by Saudi agents who exceeded their authority.

"The Secretary emphasized that the United States will hold all of those involved in the killing of Jamal Khashoggi accountable, and that Saudi Arabia must do the same", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement.

Turkey has not said how it obtained a recording from inside the consulate. There is no need to distort this.

He reiterated that Riyadh is aware of the identity of Khashoggi's killer.

Samples taken from the drains at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul showed traces of acid, pro-government daily Sabah said, without quoting sources.

The existence of the recordings was leaked to the media but never openly confirmed until now.

Last month, Gina Haspel, director of the C.I.A., traveled to Turkey, where officials reportedly played the audio recordings for her.

Khashoggi, a critic of ruling Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was killed last month at Saudi Arabia's consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul by a team sent from Riyadh.

During a phone call with President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and national security adviser John Bolton, Prince Mohammed said Khashoggi had been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a transnational Islamist organisation, according to the Washington Post.

Many observers, including some prominent USA lawmakers, suspect Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had some role in ordering the murder.

Hunt, the first British minister to visit Saudi Arabia since the murder of Khashoggi a month ago, will also call on the Saudi authorities to do more to deliver justice and accountability for his family.

According to Kerman, the Saudi entourage covered the floor with plastic bags before dismembering Khashoggi's body - a 15-minute process that was led by Salah al-Tubaigy, head of the Saudi Scientific Council of Forensics.

Saudi officials have waffled over what happened - initially claiming he left the consulate in Istanbul, then saying he was killed in a "rogue operation".

Turkey is seeking the extradition of 18 suspects who have been detained in Saudi Arabia, so they can be put on trial in Turkey.
