Thousands of migrants who have crowded into the Mexican border town of Tijuana have health issues, including lice and tuberculosis, Tijuana's Health Department said.

Federal officials announced on Friday that Miguel Angel Ramirez, 46, was recently released from a Honduran prison "four months ago" after serving 13 years for homicide and robbery. "Because I live on the line, they both want to kill me", he said. "Or are they fleeing because they committed a crime and law enforcement is after them in their own country?" They point to images of crying barefoot children running from clouds of tear gas after Sunday's clash as proof of the administration's inhumane treatment.

Officials say one Border Patrol agent was hospitalized after multiple agents were assaulted by illegal immigrants near Tucson.

The decision not to prosecute came despite President Donald Trump's vow that the USA will not tolerate lawlessness and after extensive preparations were made for the caravan, including deployment of thousands of active-duty troops to the border.

The suspect allegedly admitted to being from El Salvador and entering the US without authorization.

Members of Pueblo Sin Fronteras (Nation Without Borders), an immigration rights group known for organizing several migrant caravans in Mexico and Central America, as well as other unidentified organizers, should be prosecuted, Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum told Fox News.

Tough stance on caravan keeps criminals in Mexico

Children had been separated from their parents this summer during a period when a zero-tolerance policy was used at the border, but the separations were stopped by Trump following worldwide outrage.

The migrant caravan's members ventured through Mexico towards the U.S. carrying hope for a better future.

Thousands of migrants are being housed at the Benito Juarez Sports Complex near the San Ysidro U.S. -Mexico Port of Entry, even though it can accommodate only 1,000 people. They briefly escaped and were captured.

A 22-year-old man and a 38-year-old man were also from Honduras.

But assault cases are harder to prove, requiring more investigation and evidence, and it's not clear yet if the men will be charged by federal prosecutors. The mayor, who supports the deportation of violent migrants, once again called on the federal government and the newly elected leader to step up their efforts to support the city, which is struggling to accommodate around 8,000 migrants now waiting for the United States to process their asylum claims.

Numerous migrants who made the trek to the East Tijuana property, some 7 miles (11 km) from the border, appeared thankful to be out of the muck even if most will sleep on thin mattresses on a cold, hard floor.
