NFL's Chiefs Cut Player Seen Attacking Woman

  • Kareem Hunt

What perspective could Hunt have possibly gained since he was released by the Chiefs less than 48 hours ago, when he coasted through an entire season without feeling the need to come clean about what had actually happened that night?

The Kansas City Chiefs released Kareem Hunt after video was released that appeared to show him kicking a woman.

Editor's note: This article contains images of assault that some may find disturbing.

Hunt said he was raised right by his family and that the incident was out of character for him.

Later in the footage, which was originally released by TMZ, Hunt can be seen kicking the woman while she crouched on the floor.

"I'd never met the girl before that one time", he said.

He said several times he was "embarrassed" and insisted: "I know right from wrong".

As we first reported, the woman repeatedly told Cleveland PD officers who responded to the scene she wanted to press charges. Despite that move by the league, any team is free to claim Hunt on waivers before 4 p.m. on Monday.

The NFL placed Hunt on the commissioner's exempt list earlier Friday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced they were cutting ties with Hunt on Friday, after the video of the incident was published by TMZ.

He punched his then fiancee now wife with FULL FORCE and dragged her unconscious body out of an elevator.

What happens now? Hunt appears to want to acknowledge his wrongdoing with the intention of beginning his suspension as soon as possible. It showed Rice hitting his then-fiancée who then fell to the ground.

He will likely face a suspension of at least six games, as the NFL intends to punish Hunt for this incident and a separate altercation he had with a man in June, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

That should be the price National Football League players pay for horrendous acts such as this. That incident led to a lengthy legal saga, and it culminated in an investigation by Robert Mueller into the NFL's mishandling of it.

The specter of domestic violence and questions about the league's willingness to address it have lingered since 2014.

Hunt, who is in his second year in the league, remains on a rookie contract so will be a very attractive (and relatively inexpensive) commodity for a number of NFL teams who may not be turned off the inevitable negative PR implications of signing the undoubtedly talented player.

He is now waiting for the NFL to finish investigating to see if he still has a future in the league. But this summer, two of its 11 members resigned. The Washington Redskins picked up Reuben Foster despite another team cutting him for domestic violence charges.
