Wizards’ John Wall out with heel injury, will see specialist

  • Wizards' John Wall to have surgery on heel; out for season

He missed a game with an injury to his heel December 10.

Washington Wizards star John Wall is planning to undergo season-ending surgery to fix bone spurs in his left heel, league sources told ESPN.

As the team's starting point guard and half of the All-Star backcourt, Wall will obviously be hard to replace. Wall in 32 games played this season put up averages of 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. The Wizards have fallen well short of expectations, heading in to Saturday's game against the Charlotte Hornets with a 13-23 record.

Tomas Satoransky will start in place of Wall.

From a team perspective, the Wizards have to hope (and pray) that the then 29-year old can stay healthy and return to his 2016-17 form.

The All-Star point guard signed a massive four-year, $170 million contract extension in 2017 that will kick in next season.

Wall's injury also highlights a serious lack of depth in the point guard position for the team. On Dec. 16 in Los Angeles, he scored 40 points with 14 assists against the Lakers.

That made surgery a near no-brainer for Wall and the team as it does not make sense to risk further injury for a meaningless season.
