However, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Nationals' most recent offer to Harper was for "much more" than $300 million, which a source told him was simply Washington's first offer.

The Chicago White Sox's pursuit of free agent infielder Manny Machado appears to be heating up. The White Sox were also interested in right-fielder Harper but were yet to make a formal offer despite holding numerous meetings with the player and his agent Scott Boras.

The Washington Nationals reportedly have made a fair share of effort to bring back their homegrown star.

It can be assumed that Harper also has emotional ties to the Washington organization.

Meanwhile, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Nationals are not the only team pursuing Harper seriously. While these stats aren't eye-popping, Harper's career stats show 2018 to be an anomaly for a player primed for the best years of his career.

Harper's free agency is widely considered one of the most important in Major League Baseball history. ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote this week that the White Sox are willing to make a decade-long offer, while Bruce Levine of 670 The Score says the team would only go as high as seven years. The Phillies are the next team that will reportedly meet with Bryce, but the fact that the meeting will take place in Las Vegas sums up how Mr. I understand there are some warts with any free agent, and that's true with Harper and Machado, but it would be nuts to me if they wind up signing a seven-year deal, even at $30 million AAV. Clearly, with the meetings, and the timing of those meetings, there does seem to be some level of interest on the Nats' side as well as Harper's. This bit of information from Nightengale comes just two weeks after Machado attended meetings with the White Sox, Yankees, and Phillies in their respective cities.

In the end, where do the Phillies actually sit at this point in regard to either superstar?
