Stocks in the Spotlight: Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Freeport-McMoRan Inc (NYSE:FCX), Petroleo Brasileiro SA Petrobras (ADR) (NYSE:PBR)

The first Microsoft IoT Expo is held at Hua Nan Bank International Conference Center recently, together with the official launch of Microsoft IoT Innovation Center. A total of 393 companies from 17 countries gathered at this expo which features over 70 keynote speeches and 33 IoT applications showcases, all focusing on smart city, retail, manufacturing, and life. Expo participants not only gain global insights but also are endowed with technology transfer and match-making opportunities. It is expected that this event will foster cross-discipline and highly professional partnerships, which assists IoT players to not only get a foothold in Asia and but also further target the global market.

Microsoft IoT Innovation Center as the starting for global IoT deployment

Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on IoT with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) last October, Microsoft has been promoting several IoT related industry and talent development programs in Taiwan. For example, the first DevDays Asia, which took place this past April with informative presentations from over ten information scientists and architects, who assisted with solving technical issues. In July, an IoT solution constructed by Taiwanese companies was introduced in WPC, an annual conference attended by tens of thousands of people, and soon became a sought-after hit by partners around the world seeking collaboration. All in all, Microsoft has assisted 22 Taiwanese companies with over 87 IoT devices to be Microsoft Azure Certified for IoT by this September, with the number of certifications taking up over 40% of all certified devices worldwide. As if the aforementioned achievements are not enough in a year, Microsoft is holding the Microsoft IoT Expo 2016 recently, with the participation of 393 companies and around 1,100 visitors from Taiwan and abroad. This expo displays 33 IoT solutions, offers match-making meetings which facilitate in-depth interaction among partners, and declares the official launch of Microsoft IoT Innovation Center.

Freeport-McMoRan Inc (NYSE:FCX), jumped 0.21% and closed at $9.66 in the last trading session. The last trading range of the stock ranges between $9.56 and $9.63. The company’s Market capitalization is $12.86 Billion with the total Outstanding Shares of 1.33 billion. Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (FCX) declared recently a purchase and sale agreement to sell its onshore California oil and gas properties to Sentinel Peak Resources California LLC for total consideration of $742 million, counting contingent consideration.

Under the terms of the agreement, FCX will receive cash consideration of $592 million at closing and additional consideration of $50 million per annum in each of 2018, 2019 and 2020 if the price of Brent crude oil averages $70 per barrel or higher in that calendar year. The purchasers will also assume future abandonment obligations associated with the properties, which had a book value of about $0.1 billion at June 30, 2016.

The transaction has an effective date of July 1, 2016, and is expected to close in fourth-quarter 2016, subject to customary closing conditions.

For the twelve month period ended June 30, 2016, net daily sales volumes from these properties averaged 28.6 thousand barrels of oil per day. Over this period, revenues totaled $0.4 billion, cash production costs (before G&A) totaled $0.3 billion and capital expenditures totaled $0.04 billion.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA Petrobras (ADR) (NYSE:PBR), jumped 1.27% and closed at $11.14 in the last trading session. The last trading range of the stock ranges between $10.97 and $11.27. The company’s Market capitalization is $70.91 Billion with the total Outstanding Shares of 7.44 billion. During the 52-week trading session the minimum price at which share price traded, registered at $2.71 and reached to max level of $11.27. Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras operates as an integrated energy company in Brazil and internationally. Its Exploration and Production segment engages in the exploration, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas; and sale of crude oil and oil products produced at natural gas processing plants in domestic and foreign markets.
